Smile is fine for what it is used for. In fact it only appears in 2 scenes of the MSQ, so even if you have alergy to that kind of songs, I would not bother.

Not liking this song has nothing to do with race or any social issues. It just felt out of place, and I'm not a fan of the Disnefication of media. It also would have been one thing for it to ONLY be the end credit song. But the fact that they jammed it in a few other times meant by the end it had overstayed it's welcome. Which to be fair is how I felt about Wuk Lamat too, so I guess it's fitting.

I tried comparing Black Gospel with Smile out of curiosity - I knew Black Gospel often hod choirs, but that's about all I knew of it. I guess I gotta be grateful for Wuk's VA for getting to to listen to Black Gospel now, since I wouldn't have otherwise. Smile still sucks tho

My issue with smile is the singer sound like she's singing far too wide and in a range not suited for her voice and you can HEAR the struggle. It just doesn't fit. Also the melody is so repetitive to be almost monotonous with no proper flow and the vocalist does nothing to help that. Dynamics are a thing for a reason.

Music is a universal language. Also, in Rubicante's theme they always do a bit of word crunching in the choir, and it makes those moments sound a little off, but I still love it.

The song smile is mid at best. IMO It sounded so bad :( It was like a bad Disney song for me- did not get the gospel choir out of it at all.

Surprisingly not a bad take. When I heard he hasn't done the msq (wtf?) I knew he wouldn't quite get it. Its not just the song, but also the context of a poorly written expansion that is less FFXIV and more 'Dora the Explorer, Disney Warrior Princess.' Wuk Lamat may not have actually said "Swiper, no swiping" but she might as well have, it would be on point for her.

I like the song Smile, it just always feels out of place. That's really strange considering how varied FFXIV songs are, but I think it just doesn't match anything in the current expansion or tracks. Is it gospel to me? no. Is it Disney to me? yes.

I can tell you why it sounds so...bad. They have auto-tune cranked up on this singer. That and this singer is spends too much in falsetto and nasally sounding. I grew up with Southern Gospel, Black Gospel, and Contemporary Gospel music. This song is neither of the aforementioned. The arrangement is awful too, it sounds like it's a four cord arrangement with very little movement you'd expect from music SE normally releases.

A song that is sung by a Japanese person. Written and composed by a Japanese person. Is not Black Gospel. If you wanna reach that it is then you can only really call it an poor imitation. Just looks like Sena is trying to speak up for black people when she has no place. If you see what she looks like irl she looks pasty as hell. No drop of melonin in her at all. Sorry for ranting but i just hate when people try to use black people as a way to start fights online. Its really horrible and in my eyes racist as hell. She should be ashamed.

The weird thing is that it's the part that sounds more like a Black gospel choir (emphasis on 'more like') that I actually like more, it's the bits that don't come close to that at all that I think are bad. I don't actually hate the song, but it's easily the weakest expansion theme. I think it's also true to a degree that there are some people who are probably being racist about it (I have seen some people say it's 'like black music' so they don't like it), but those people are like less than a handful - they're always going to exist. 90% of people who dislike it do so because, well they dislike it.

I am pretty sure that they are not saying „people who dont like this song/this music genre are racist“ but whats happening is that in comparison to other things the certain playerbase dosnt like you can tell that their hatred is otherwise motivated than just criticizing a song they dont like. For me its more obvious in how much hatred erenville/Varshan and wuk lamats VA get hate for „not sounding white“ and thats disgusting whether you like the characters or not and shouldnt be defended - not liking something and stating that with or without reasoning is something completely different than to act entitled and dramatic/irritated because you cant stand a certain Voice or song.

Please say the song is bad, and that the vocalist is bad, and that the main character of the expansion was bad, and that the expansion itself was .. really bad. Just because there's a trans voice actor doesn't mean that you can't give criticism. Everyone is backpedaling and holding off on what they actually feel for fear of getting canceled on twitter and it's so stupid. Everything was horrible besides the fights.

I just want to point out the watermelon in their name, which is code for supporting Palestine and 'from the river to the sea', a call to genocide the Jews. I seriously doubt Sena doesn't know that; she's had the watermelon in her name for as long as I've seen her posting so there's no way it hasn't come up... so add being a HAMAS supporter to her poor qualities, I guess.

To play devil's advocate for people saying that Wuk Lamat's VA did a bad job, in all fairness I wouldn't say its entirely their fault as the voice direction for the english dub of the game for Dawntrail is *weird as hell* across the board. Cutscenes that should have been voiced are totally silent, some accents are cringe-inducing (you know which section I'm talking about) and the expansion is riddled with wooden performances that shouldn't have made it into the final product. Even the main cast/the Scion's VAs sound like they don't really care sometimes and their VAs have proven that they can give great performances. Not suprising, given how their characters were treated as Wuk Lamat's cheerleaders this expansion. Krile arguibly got it the worst given how hard her "arc" was shafted. Really the main reason people harp on Wuk Lamat's VA is because she got the most amount of dialogue out of anyone this expansion, making her stand out the most. But the reality is the *entire story* suffers from weird voice direction. That being said however, the VA's behaviour and responses outside of that are *inexcusable* just based on how unprofessional it makes her look. If she had taken the criticism on the chin and said nothing it would have been infinately more respectable. Instead she went ahead and *proved* how terminally online she is.

It doesn't help that the song just sounds cheaply made and terribly sung. What's crazy to me is even the instrumentals are complete garbage. It's like a little kid is panging at two keys on a piano at a time. There's no way Soken had a hand in this. I refuse to believe it... and it really needs to be stressed: (SPOILERS BELOW) Smile plays happily after the game has tried to make you feel guilty about genociding a bunch of peoples' facsimile souls and assassinating Sphene, as you leave a place that's objectively dead of sapient minds with echoes of their former lives tattered in the winds. It's so out of place it's fucking obscene. ...and yet, it's not even in the top 5 worst things about the ending of Dawntrail.

Of course someone as salty as this wouldn't like a song about being there for each other versus what sounds like nearly unintelligible screaming n your ear to a backdrop of Japanese kpop

It's just not a good song. An unfortunate and rare swing-and-a-miss by the audio team at FFXIV. Terrible lyrics, bad singing, awful mixing, and it's not even close to the genre that it's supposedly inspired by. I had to skip every cutscene that had it... the first time I've ever done that in my time playing since 2017. The entire expac was pretty bad... somehow it took all the bad things from ARR and Stormblood MSQ and none of the good things. Bloated questlines full of nothing, a plethora of characters we don't care about, Scions whose presence seems pointless, and a player character that's completely disconnected from what happening literally right in front of them. All while following a main character that has a buoyant personality but not the character development to match the plot of the story itself. Overall, I think I'm cancelling my sub if the .3 patch isn't amazing. It hurts me to do so, because I think the combat is generally improved compared to ShB or EW, but I think the MSQ is played out at this point. I'm a MSQ enjoyer mostly, and I don't see the value in sticking around currently.

If DRKs theme is "Sacrifice" I think some options for changes could be: TBN can be eaten any time for a heal of equal potency 2 charges no longer tied to mp, Missionary is level 64, Salted earth heals you when standing in it like PVP, Abyssal Drain not connected to carve and spit and cooldown shortens with use of edge or flood of shadow, oblation restores some mp when hit. None of this crap is very complicated.

There's nothing gospel about it. It's just poorly written and sung pop music. Actual gospel music is uplifting and joyous.

Sena bryer gets angry when people attack her over wuk lamat, and now she attacks the audience of the game for not liking a song and implying its because they are racist. So its bad when people attack her unjustly, but its ok when she attacks others unjustly. Ok yea, Sena Bryer can go jump in a trench.

smile would work better if the story of dawntrail was good. Its not. the story is by far the worst in xiv and honestly its just a plain badly paced story with insane plotholes the size of universes. Smile jus compounds everything else thats bad. Honestly smile is jus forgettable. thats it. But smile compounded with trash storytelling.....that makes it even worse
